The last 12 months have been all about The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, with a surge of publicity that we have never experienced before. Richard appeared in over 200 video, print and online interviews! All of them were posted on this site and now reside in the archive news page, but I have been copying the links to other parts of the site to make them easier to find.
Video interviews are on the Hobbit Video Clips and Interviews page, red carpet interviews are on the Hobbit Premieres 2012 page, and almost all of the written interviews are on the Print and Online Interviews page.
The news wasn't all about interviews: high resolution stills from the film were released, a huge variety of merchandise was publicised, numerous trailers and TV spots appeared on YouTube, and Richard attended FIVE Hobbit Premieres around the world from 28 November to 12 December 2012.
Hobbit publicity continued in the first half of this year with promotion of the DVD in the UK and Australia. In March, Richard spent two very busy days promoting the DVD in the UK with Andy Serkis and James Nesbitt. Three weeks later he spent a few days promoting the Hobbit DVD in Australia, which included an evening few will forget, especially those of you who attended...The Popcorn Taxi Q&A in Cremone, Sydney.
The volume of Hobbit publicity was worth the long wait and more than made up for the lack of news and interviews in 2011 and 2012, and it all starts again in a few month's time (gulp)!
Was there any other news?
We received a message from Richard on 28 November 2012, the day of the Wellington world premiere of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, which surprised and delighted us all that he would think of sending us a message at such a time.
Non-Hobbit news included the sporadic appearance of fantastic new pictures from the Robert Ascroft photoshoot and occasional news that...well, er...THERE IS NO NEWS of a release date for Black Sky. Yet. (Filmed in Michigan, August 2012).
Now we must wait to find out what's next for Richard and of course look forward to seeing The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug in December 2013.
Happy Birthday Richard - you've been SO busy these past 12 months and have spoiled us with all the interviews, amazed us that you never once looked like you were irritated by those interviewers asking you the same questions OVER AND OVER and delighted us with your portrayal of Thorin.
