Rachel Herrington: Elizabeth Gaskell & North and South

Richard, I just read Elizabeth Gaskell's North and South. I saw that there was an adaption and thought that I would be disappointed in Mr. Thorton's portrayal. However, I was really impressed-WOW. You nailed it. Keep up the good work. I am your newest and most devout fan, Sincerely, Rachel

I don't know if Richard will read your comment, but thank you for sharing your experience. Many of us have felt the same about North and South!

Jan Taylor: tweet regarding 29th feb

Can't believe that our very special guy didn't get at least 1 proposal, even if only in fun. He seems to be enjoying Berlin & Michelle Forbes appears to be quite smitten! (can't say I blame her)

Actually he did! I saw plenty on twitter. He was just joking.

Linda: North And South

Yes, Drama was the channel I recorded from, flipping adverts get in the way of good stuff! Haven't got the DVD but am hoping to acquire it!

It's only £3.70 on Amazon UK right now - please use my Amazon link on the homepage to earn commission for charity.

Petra: Berlin

Hello Ali, from your page I know that Richard is filming in Berlin at this moment. Do you know where exactly? Is it possible to see him? :-) Thanks Petra

Hi Petra

I saw your comment on my FAQ page too. Sorry no, I don't know the answer to either question.

Linda: North And South

Have just been indulging myself in North And South this afternoon, having recorded it this morning, RA is superb in this and I love the story, I'm just an old romantic at heart!Hope everyone enjoyed it again, or for the first time and are having a lovely day.

It is a shame that the Drama channel (is that where you watched it?) cut some of the scenes out to make room for the adverts - e.g. they omitted the entire scene in episode 4 when Thornton visits Helstone and finds the yellow rose... :(

I expect we all have the DVD though!

Susie: Leading men weekend on Drama Channel

Don't know if anybody is already aware of this but the Drama Channel (freeview 20) are having a leading men weekend to celebrate Valentine's Day. They are showing North & South with Richard in one of his most pivotal roles. They are running the Spooks series right from the beginning, so we should get around to seeing Richard again eventually! Here's details of the trailer for the leading man weekend on Drama: Enjoy!

Thanks Susie!

Nichola Glover: Pilgrimage

Dear Richard, I'm looking forward to seeing Pilgrimage, I hope we don't have to wait too long. Are you still considering a Richard III project, it would be nice to see something that isn't just based on Shakespeare's interpretation? A big thank you for doing the audiobooks, I am currently listening to Hamlet (which I haven't read since my teens) and enjoying the novel version. I thoroughly enjoyed your portrayal of Thorin in the Hobbit films, watching the films wasn't the grown woman but the 10 year old girl who had borrowed the book from a boy in her class who had told her "You won't enjoy it, it's not a girls book". How wrong he was. Keep up the good work. Kind Regards Nichola (a bearded admirer!)

Fotina Hardy: Sylvester needs to be made into a movie

Dear Richard First I have to say I love your body of work so than you for your gift! I recently found out you have completed the audio books for Georgette Heyer (I know I am behind the times!) but having heard a bit of Sylvester I re read the novel recently and wondered, why hasn't anyone made these into movies. Who better to play Sylvester than you. The world needs more joy in films and Georgette Heyer's writing is brilliantly witty. I just wanted to mention this to you in the hope that you would consider doing this. Unfortunately I can't provide any funds to assist this, I am just a fan of both of you, but what a wonderful thing it would be to to introduce a new generation to Heyer and to make some beautiful films. Kind regards Fotina
