Daily Record 24 Oct 09

The Daily Record has an interview with Richard Armitage this morning in which we get an interesting insight of what life was like before he landed more significant roles in television. This experience affects his current work ethic: “But I always feel somehow it’s going to be taken away from me so I work when I can. When you struggled with work as I did when I left drama school you make hay when the sun shines.”

He also talks about the ever-changing scripts that are part of working life on the set of Spooks: “When I first came on board, Peter Firth said to me this is what happens and you have to learn to run with it. You’ve got to be able to learn lines and some very dense political jargon very quickly – it’s quite a workout for the brain.”

The online article is here.

There are times when every actor goes through rough patches and work is scarce, so he does right to be apprehensive about turning down work. (As long as he doesn’t do any old rubbish!) It may not seem possible at the moment but there is always the chance that work will dry up, especially in these economical times, so to make sure you have a few bob put away for a rainy day seems the sensible thing to do in my mind. Hopefully Richard will always appear on our TV screens but many an actor has come unstuck when money comes flooding in and spend money as quick as they can earn it. He’s obviously got a bit of nouse! Good on him!

Richard is such a fine and dedicated actor, and I have a feeling now that he has been well and truly discovered, he will never want to work again. I think all the struggles and frustration he has gone through just make him a better, stronger human being. I wish him all the success and career satisfaction possible . . . and thank him for all the wonderful moments he has given me with his performances.
